About Microsoft Project Data

Microsoft Project is where many project schedules live, but its Gantt view is hard to drop into a slide or a status report cleanly. CleanChart does not open .mpp files directly; export the task list from Project as an Excel workbook or CSV and upload that. The exported columns Project produces by default (Name, Start, Finish, Duration, Predecessors, Resource Names, Outline Level) are recognised automatically and mapped onto the Gantt chart's task, start, end and group roles.

Project managers use this to get a clean Gantt for a steering-committee deck or a customer update without rebuilding the schedule in a drawing tool. Filter the task list in Project first (summary tasks only, or one phase) so the chart shows the level of detail the audience needs.

Microsoft Project Advantages:

  • Works with the Excel (.xlsx) and CSV exports Project produces
  • Name, Start, Finish, Duration and Resource Names are recognised automatically
  • Outline levels and predecessors in the export are tolerated, not required
  • One chart per phase or per resource with the group column
  • Privacy-first: processed in memory and discarded immediately, with no stored copy of your rows
